Article Submission
The editors of EStAL welcome contributions of articles, case notes and book reviews related to the field of State aid law.
Authors are invited to follow the journal's style sheet and the authors guidelines.
It is understood that EStAL accepts for print submissions of excellent quality only. All publications must demonstrate clearly that they are sufficiently distinct from the status quo of discussions among the informed state aid community, in particular through sufficiently broad footnoting and citations, and aim at advancing those discussions.
Whereas opinions and case notes may be more pointed, articles in particular must take clearly visible notice of pre-existing literature and jurisprudence, even if the positions expressed there are to be rejected by the author of the submission at hand. Likewise, submissions relating to very recent developments require less footnoting and citation than submissions relating to familiar topics.
Publications not living up to this quality standard will be rejected by the editorial board in the pre-publication review process.
Formatting of submissions
All contributions must comply with the minimum formatting requirements laid out hereunder. Non-compliance with formatting requirements results in rejection of the submission. Also, use of the document template for EStAL submissions available through the website or upon e-mail request is strongly encouraged. A formatted sample text is available here.
Length and overall formatting
Articles and case annotations are typically around 3,500–7,000 words in length, i.e. approximately 22,000–42,000 characters including spaces, excluding footnotes. Longer articles are accepted on a case-by-case basis if commanded by the characteristics of the topic. Shorter contributions may take the form of opinions on current issues of interest. News from the Member States should have between 2,500 and 5,000 characters including spaces. Exceptionally, they may also be longer.
All submissions should preferably use the template or be in MS Word Format, Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1 ½.
