Following the success of its previous editions, Lexxion, publisher of the European Food and Feed Law Review (EFFL) as well as the European Journal of Risk Regulation (EJRR), organised the 3rd Summer Academy on Global Food Law & Policy. The academy offered scientific reflection and discourse on key legal and policy issues on European and world food law as well as information and updates on the latest developments. This was achieved through a dynamic, informal and highly interactive five-day programme including lectures, presentations, discussion groups and social activities.
The academic director of the Summer Academy is Alberto Alemanno, Associate Professor of Law at HEC Paris and Editor of EJRR.
The faculty of the Summer Academy consisted of food experts coming from relevant authorities, European and US institutions, academia, industry and legal practice.

The Summer Academy aims to contribute to the emerging field of global food governance by offering an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to the study of this discipline.
During the annual five-day course emphasis is placed on understanding the most difficult and controversial aspects of global food law and policy.
The goal of the course is to engage lawyers, scientists, policy makers, regulatory affairs experts, and academics with both traditional and emerging areas of food law and policy by following an innovative and interdisciplinary approach. Its programme offers an intensive exposure to practical research by relying on case studies and brain storming sessions. In order to achieve this, the faculty – all dedicated and enthusiastic about their field of expertise – are committed to use the latest research questions by always keeping an eye on real life scenarios.
The Summer Academy has an academic programme stretching over a period of five days, with the option to extend the stay over the weekend weekend. Each day a morning and an afternoon session are scheduled offering ample time for informal exchange and discussions over lunch and coffee.
During the sessions a lecturer introduces a topic theoretically, before turning to the empirical applications. There is always sufficient time for Q&As and the lecturers may decide to change this structure if appropriate. Depending on the lecturer’s availability, individual meetings may be scheduled between the formal teaching sessions.
Alongside the academic sessions social activities are planned on a voluntary basis.
